Fulham ‘make offer’ for Chelsea outcast with Mauricio Pochettino set to continue summer fire sale
Fulham have reportedly made an offer of £4m for out-of-favour Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi, who seems destined to move elsewhere this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino has already sold several players such as Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz as he looks to rebuild his squad.
Fulham, on the other hand, are looking to build on an excellent 2022/23 campaign, which saw them finish in 10th place after making their return to the Premier League.
Marco Silva has already signed centre-forward Raul Jimenez from Wolves and wants to add more attacking reinforcements to his squad as he prepares for the potential departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Now, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, they have made a low-ball verbal offer for Hudson-Odoi.
On Twitter, Romano wrote: “Understand Fulham have made a verbal proposal for Callum Hudson-Odoi — it’s around £4m fee.
“Chelsea want £8m fee, negotiations are advanced — Fulham, confident to get the deal done in the next days.”
Hudson-Odoi broke into the Chelsea first team back in 2018 but has fallen down the pecking order in recent years.
Overall, the England international has made 126 appearances for the Blues, scoring 16 goals and making 22 assists.
Hudson-Odoi spent last season on loan with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, where he netted just one goal in 21 outings.
As a result, he doesn’t seem to be part of Pochettino’s plans for the future. The manager has plenty of winger options, such as Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.
But, Hudson-Odoi is thought to be keen on remaining in the Premier League and Fulham clearly believe they can sign him on a cut-price fee.
Marco Silva wants to bring in a new winger this summer. The manager relied heavily on Willian last term, but the 34-year-old is admittedly past his best, despite being an asset to the team.
Hudson-Odoi is still 22, though, and pundits believe he still has plenty of potential. A move to Craven Cottage would also allow him to stay in London, which he may find appealing.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Fulham increase their offer for the attacker. £4m is unlikely to be enough to seal a deal, but even £8m would be a major bargain for a young player with plenty of experience at the highest level.
