Gallas discusses top four

Former Premier League defender William Gallas does not think Manchester United will finish in the top four this season.

The Red Devils only picked up 58 points last term as they ended up sixth in the Premier League.

Man Utd finished the season 13 points adrift of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Erik ten Hag has left Ajax to take over at Man Utd ahead of next season. Tyrell Malacia is the only player they have signed so far this summer.

They are also being linked with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Christian Eriksen and Antony.

Gallas played for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham during his professional career. He does not think Man Utd are capable of earning a place in the Champions League in 2022/23:

“I don’t want to, but I have to put City because they look like they are going to be very strong,” Gallas told The Metro.

“So City, Chelsea, Liverpool definitely. Then the same problem, Arsenal or Tottenham, I don’t know. Manchester United? I don’t think so, no.”

On Tottenham, Gallas added: “I think they can cause trouble to the big clubs.

“They will cause problems as they will be very strong this season, especially with the mentality of Antonio Conte.”

Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand thinks the only way Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Man Utd this summer is if they find a way to bring Robert Lewandowski in to replace him:

“I don’t see it happening man, I can’t even think about that because you have to look at the whole situation,” Ferdinand said on Vibe with FIVE.

“It’s getting on in the window and, if United were to let him go, [Erling] Haaland and [Darwin] Nunez, probably the first two on your list, have gone to clubs.

“The only other person who could fill into those shoes, who I’d have confidence in, who’s possibly capable of doing it, is [Robert] Lewandowski. But he looks like he has his heart set on Barcelona if they can get that deal done.

“The only way I see it happening is if United can get Lewandowski and then Ronaldo could go then. That’s the only way it happens and, if United can’t get a ready-made replacement to bang in 20 or 25 goals next season outside of Lewandowski or somebody [else] gettable, I don’t see it being a deal that gets done, not at all.”
