The Hammers were worthy winners on Wednesday evening showing grit and taking advantage of some very poor Chelsea defending.
Michail Antonio caused the Blues problems throughout the game, with the Chelsea centre-backs unable to deal with him.
And the West Ham winner was the perfect example of Chelsea’s defensive strife.
Andreas Christensen attempted to win a ball after Antonio had laid it off, but got nowhere near it.
Yarmolenko was left one-on-one with Rudiger, who he beat easily as he came inside to smash the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Alonso meanwhile was jogging back into position.
And Sky Sports pundit Neville was quick to slam Alonso and Rudiger for their poor defending after Yarmolenko’s dramatic winner in Wednesday night’s London derby.
“Rudiger showed a lack of knowledge and a lack of intelligence [for Yarmolenko’s winner],” Neville said. “He has to keep Yarlomenko off his left foot. [His defending] leaves Kepa with no chance.”
Neville added: “What are you doing Marcos Alonso? There’s his running back speed. It has cost Chelsea the game.
“It’s poor defending from Rudiger. Alonso was level with Yarmolenko and he doesn’t bother [to run back]. You should run back as fast as you can when your team lose the ball. You learn that at the age of six.”
