Gerrard denies terrible treatment of former Rangers captain

Steven Gerrard has responded to suggestions that Rangers have treated Lee Wallace badly.

Speaking at the club’s AGM on Tuesday morning, Gerrard responded to a fan’s suggestion that Rangers had treated Wallace terribly.

The 31-year-old has played a single minute in all competitions this season, with injury restricting his playing time considerably.

Borna Barisic and Jon Flanagan have both been signed by Gerrard to compete for Wallace’s left-back spot, with the club’s former captain seemingly unlikely to retain it when he returns to full fitness.

But when put to him by a fan that Rangers had treated Wallace poorly, Gerrard was in disagreement.

“Lee Wallace was out injured when I came in and had missed 12 months before then,” he said.

“I pay tribute to how Lee has gone about his business when he has been injured.

“To be candid, as long as he’s here he remains part of my plans and he trains with us but I believe we have better options in that position at the moment.

“My relationship with Lee is fine.”
