Steven Gerrard has jokingly stated that he would ensure Antoine Griezmann was “as far away from Manchester as possible” this summer if he were his agent.

Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann is one of Europe’s most in-demand commodities, and is likely to command plenty of interest this summer.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Frenchman, which would require a bid close to the current world record of £89.3million.

Speaking to BT Sport along with Rio Ferdinand, Gerrard noted that he is a huge fan of the forward.

“Me and Rio, the first thing we spoke about tonight when we met up was Griezmann. Will he sign for United? Will he be in the Premier League?”

Ferdinand interrupted, pointing out that Gerrard would be “devastated” if Griezmann signs for United as reported. “Not half,” the Liverpool midfielder replied.

He added: “I think he’s one of the best players at finding space and gaps and hurting teams in between the lines.”

When Ferdinand was asked what he would do this summer if he was Griezmann’s agent, the former United defender replied: “What’s best suited to him?”

Gerrard immediately replied: “Get him as far away from Manchester as possible.”
