Olivier Giroud has been in red-hot form for Chelsea, and it is making him “undroppable”, according to Danny Murphy.

The forward has been in remarkable form for the Blues in recent weeks. In late November, he came off the bench and scored a late winner for Chelsea against Rennes in the Champions League.

Giroud was rewarded with a start in their next European outing against Sevilla. The Frenchman put in one of the best performances of his career as he bagged four goals as Chelsea won 4-0.

The striker made his first Premier League start of the season against Leeds United on Saturday. The 34-year-old got on the scoresheet again as Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners. Giroud has scored seven goals for the Blues from just eleven outings this season.

Speaking after Chelsea’s win over Leeds, as cited by Football London, Murphy argued that Giroud’s form is making him “undroppable” for Lampard’s side.

“Frank was right to mention Leeds’ qualities but Giroud deserves all the credit in the world.

“He’s not underrated by me or people that know football – if you play the game at the top level you know how important a striker like he is to the team. He’s a focal point.

“He nearly scored early on with the first header, I don’t know how Timo Werner kept that out. He looked so up for it, he’s full of confidence after midweek and all good strikers gamble on space. It was a superb finish.

“Game awareness as well, knowing where people are running, and his strength and presence. Everything about his performance says keep me in the team.

“Leeds were unhappy about the second but it was just his physical presence that knocked over Liam Cooper. He’s rightly in the team, he’s earned his way.

“People were thinking about him leaving or talk of him going in January as he wants to play in the Euros but he’s undroppable at the moment.

“He deserves great credit for his attitude to get into that position.”
