Given: Delph disliked Keane after he gave him a ‘b****cking’

Fabian Delph and Gabby Agbonlahor both took an ‘instant dislike’ to Roy Keane when he became Aston Villa assistant manager.

Keane was appointed assistant to Paul Lambert at Villa Park in summer 2014, but stayed for just four months in the role.

In the latest excerpt from his upcoming autobiography, ‘Shay: Any Given Saturday’, retired keeper Shay Given has lifted the lid on how established players Delph and Agbonlahor were constantly at odds with the Irishman.

‘It didn’t take long for the sparks to fly when Roy Keane joined as Lambert’s coach,’ he writes.

‘Fabian Delph and Gabby Agbonlahor took a pretty much instant dislike to Roy – and he returned the favour. Fabian argued one day with Roy after a b****cking in training. As I’ve said, Delphy loves training and always works hard so Roy obviously touched a nerve.

‘Towards the end of Roy’s time at Villa – he left as quickly as he arrived – Gabby was talking to Paul about something and Roy added his thoughts only for Gabby to give him a mouthful along the lines of, “I wasn’t talking to you.”

‘It didn’t escalate to pushing or shoving but there were plenty of verbals and it got heated.’
