The 100-player Golden Boy longlist for 2020 has been revealed. There are a couple of Premier League players in there, but it’s Jadon Sancho or Erling Haaland’s

The Golden Boy award is handed out to the best under-21 player that has featured for a club in a European nation’s top flight that calendar year.

Established by Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2003, previous winners include Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and Kylian Mbappe.

The most recent incumbent was Joao Felix but the 100 players vying for his crown – players cannot be nominated if they have already won the award – have been revealed.

The longlist includes 22 players currently contracted to Premier League clubs, including Max Aarons (Norwich) and Michael Obafemi (Southampton) as the sole representatives for their sides.

Manchester City, Tottenham and Wolves are all next with two players: Phil Foden, Eric Garcia, Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp, Morgan Gibbs-White and Pedro Neto.

Liverpool then have three nominees – Curtis Jones, Yasser Larouci and Sepp van den Berg – which matches James Garner, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood for Manchester United.

Trae Coyle, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are flying the flag for Arsenal, while Ethan Ampadu, Tino Anjorin, Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson-Odoi do Chelsea proud.

Other notable names include likely favourite Haaland, as well as Borussia Dortmund teammates Sancho, Gio Reyna and Sergio Gomez Martin.

Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes), Dejan Kulusevski (Juventus), Jonathan David (Gent), Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Sandro Tonali (Brescia), Ansu Fati (Barcelona) and Ferran Torres (Valencia) will also be familiar to transfer gossip connoisseurs.
