Gossip: £101m Pogba part-exchange may soften huge De Gea blow

It seems that there are only so many updates a newspaper can provide about Juventus’ interest in Paul Pogba. Tuttosport might well have the inside track on developments, but there are only so many times you can report that both the player and the club want the move to go through.

So instead, they have taken a different approach this weekend. They introduce a new potential suitor, and a swap deal to rival the one that might already be on the table.

Tuttosport say that Inter Milan have entered the race to sign Pogba, with former Juventus director Beppe Marotta the man behind the decision. And to sweeten any possible deal, they will throw in not only Milan Skriniar as part-exchange, but Ivan Perisic too. If that doesn’t turn Jose Mourinho’s head, nothing will.

Football Italia, who relay the initial story, say that Juve ‘would struggle to compete with that proposal’, but add that Pogba may well reject the chance to join a different Italian club. Still, with Perisic vauled at around £31m, and Skriniar carrying a £70m price tag, it is certainly an appealing £101m exchange offer.

Now for the bad news. The Mail tell us, in no uncertain terms, that David de Gea is sodding off this summer.

The Spaniard is apparently ‘set to become the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world’ when PSG offer him a four-year contract worth £60m. To get around any possible FFP restrictions, Neymar will be sold as Kylian Mbappe is prioritised.

Juventus were previously in the race but are happy with Wojciech Szczesny, leaving PSG wanting to replace Gianluigi Buffon properly. They can agree a pre-contract with De Gea as early as January.

Mourinho is “not confident” that United can persuade the keeper to stay, but the story does seem to ignore the fact that the club have an automatic one-year option they can activate on De Gea’s deal. Weird.
