Gossip: £90m Manchester United transfer is off…

SHOCK: BALE TO MAN UNITED IS OFF
It will come as a huge surprise that those media outlets who have been continuously telling us that Gareth Bale could move to Manchester United this summer are now reporting that the deal is off because Bale will be staying with Real Madrid.
On Sunday, reports suggested that Bale was about to meet Julen Lopetegui to discuss his Real Madrid future, with United waiting in the wings with a £90m offer. Since then, Bale sent some twee tweet about being ready for the new season with Real Madrid. By Tuesday, we are told that Bale has had his meetings and will be staying put.
Basically, Bale would probably have left Madrid if Cristiano Ronaldo had stayed. But his departure for Real means that Bale can play in a central role and the club will try and buy Eden Hazard. So now you know.
MAN UNITED WANT TWO CROATIA WINGERS
Now then. It’s rare that seeing a story linking a club with buying two wingers from the same country who impressed at the World Cup strikes as a sensible thing to do. Buying on World Cup form is often a false economy.
But we can definitely get on board with Manchester United signing Ivan Perisic. There was interest before, his style fits Jose Mourinho’s demands perfectly and he’s really bloody good.
However, we really cannot get on board with the idea that United are going to sign both players. Read about the web of half-truths in Mediawatch for an explanation as to why.
LIVERPOOL VS ARSENAL FOR BERNARD?
Do you like reading transfer stories that are blatant leaks from the player or his agent? Well then you have come to the right place.
Brazilian Bernard has left Shakhtar Donetsk and is available on a free transfer after his contract expired. He has previously announced his intention to leave the club and Ukraine after the political issues in the country. He also really fancies a move to the Premier League.
Bernard was touted as a brilliant prospect but things have gone a little sour. He has not played for the Brazil national team since 2014, and the sense is that he had been found out a little as he has grown older (he’s now 25).
Today, a story appears in the Daily Mirror saying that Liverpool and Arsenal are vying with each other to sign Bernard. Now that may be true, but it seems pretty obvious that it is in Bernard’s interest to have this story doing the rounds.
