Gossip: Alderweireld to Man United is back on; Alli deal
ALDERWEIRELD TO MAN UNITED BACK ON. OR NOT.
Well there’s some glorious disagreement over the future of Toby Alderweireld on Tuesday. Lovely.
In The Sun, we have an exclusive from Daniel Cutts – oh how we look forward to these – that Manchester United have opened talks with Tottenham over Alderweireld, with Jose Mourinho desperate to land him. Mourinho wants to tie up another deal before the World Cup begins. That’s 48 hours away, guys.
Alternatively, the Manchester Evening News say that ‘United scouts are not entirely convinced about Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld and are considering alternatives’. They have apparently expressed concerns about his ‘profile’.
It’s fair to say that they haven’t used the same source.
ALLI DEAL COMES NEXT
Every summer people predict that Tottenham could lose key attacking players, but those fear again seem to be unfounded. Last week brought news of a new contract for Harry Kane. Dele All might well be next.
The London Evening Standard say that Alli will sign a new long-term deal worth £100,000 a week. Alli currently earns £60,000 a week and could surely earn plenty more elsewhere, but is loving playing under Mauricio Pochettino and so is happy to sign.
The Standard also say that Spus hope that Alli and Kane signing will persuade a host of players to do the same. That list includes Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Son Heung-Min and Kieran Trippier, which is almost every key player.
LIVERPOOL TO STEP UP ON SHAQIRI
Liverpool may well want a replacement for Nabil Fekir, but a move for Xherdan Shaqiri would be a nice way to tide them over. He’s hardly the Plan A, but at £12m why the heck not.
In the Daily Mirror, David Maddock says that Liverpool will pursue a deal for Shaqiri at the end of the World Cup, having learned that the player is very keen on the move. Course he is.
However, the Mirror do say that there is some confusion over that break clause fee, hinting that he it may be a touch higher. You wouldn’t have thought Liverpool will go much higher.
ARSENAL AND MAN UNITED FANCY GOLOVIN
You might be hearing more about this one later. Corriere in Italy say that Juventus hold a serious interest in CSKA Moscow’s Aleksandr Golovin, and also mention that Arsenal are monitoring the situation.
Then, the Daily Mirror go in with ‘Manchester United face Juventus battle for star scouted by Jose Mourinho’, which uses a claim by Inside Futbol that Mourinho recently scouted him. That actually goes back as far as June 1, via The Sun, who said Manchester United were ‘closing in on Golovin’.
Actually, all that’s happening is that Juventus are making their move. Everything else sounds like noise.
AND THE REST
West Ham have been told they must pay £7m for Lukasz Fabianski… Steve Bruce is ready to walk away from Aston Villa… Arsenal remain in talks with Sampdoria over the proposed £22m transfer of Lucas Torreira.
