Gossip: Arsenal’s reaction to Welbeck injury

The long-term injury to Danny Welbeck has sent the papers into overdrive and two familiar names have risen to the top of their wanted list, so we’re lead to believe.

The Daily Star claim that Arsenal could go back in for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, 22. Batshuayi has been the subject of a £31m bid from West Ham, which Marseille are still considering.

The Daily Mirror don’t see it that way and they claim the Gunners will step up their interest in Alvaro Morata, 23. Morata is currently at Juventus, but the expectation is that Real Madrid will exercise their buy-back clause before selling him on for top whack.

There are also claims that Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Sehrou Guirassy. The 20-year-old Lille frontman has reportedly impressed on loan at second division club Auxerre. That was a link which surfaced on Wednesday with ESPN reporting that Wenger had chief scout Steve Rowley fly out to France on Friday last week to watch Guirassy in action against Le Havre. It’s hardly going to get supporters going.

Meanwhile, The Sun say that Arsenal will go on a ‘£80m spree’ this summer, signing Morata, Granit Xhaka and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Aaron Ramsey’s chances of a starting berth are dropping like a stone.

To the Daily Express now, with the usual amount of trepidation.

It really is spectacular work, with the Express spending half of their short article telling us why Toni Kroos is loving life again at Real Madrid after the arrival of Zinedine Zidane, only to then explain that he might still want a move.

We’re then told that Manchester City are ‘especially keen’ on Kroos with Yaya Toure set to leave, but that they face stiff competition from Manchester United and Paris St Germain.

Interestingly, when Bayern Munich sold Kroos to Real there were reports that Pep Guardiola was unhappy because he rated the midfielder so highly. Ready for a romantic rendezvous?
