Gossip: Aubameyang, Aguero, Icardi, Depoitre

Most of the talk might be about Manchester United’s next manager, but there is still room for some rumours on incoming players.

Firstly, the Independent reckon that United will target Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer no matter who is in charge.

Suppose that’s kinda the point of having a transfer committee. While any incoming manager will have the final say on players, chief scout Jim Lawler is busy identifying targets to try and avoid United getting behind the curve again.

Aubameyang has certainly scored all the goals this season but, personally, think signing him for £60m would be a massive risk. The striker has done wonderful things at Dortmund, but failed in Italy, has never played in England before and turns 27 this summer. It’s a big risk.

Sticking with United, and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Jose Mourinho will try and sign Miranda and Mauro Icardi from Internazionale when he is made United manager this summer.

The story does give us the chance to marvel at Google Translate’s efforts with the paper’s story. Things haven’t really moved on much from using Babelfish to do your GCSE French homework at the last minute.

On Miranda: ‘Hardly Inter, who paid him 12 million despite went maturing after one year, it will let you go. But you know that a Premier team budget that here we dream.’

On Icardi: ‘The money will serve even more to take away from Milan Mauro Icardi, who as recently as a few hours ago Erick Thohir defined centrally in the Inter Project. Given the state of the Nerazzurri accounts, however, in the presence of a superior offer to 40 million, nothing can be ruled out.’

‘Nothing can be ruled out’ doesn’t sound that hopeful, does it?

There hasn’t been an awful lot of good news for Manchester City fans since the announcement of Pep Guardiola as their next manager. They’ve lost to Leicester and Tottenham and got shellacked by Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Well this news will make them feel a whole lot better. According to ESPN, Sergio Aguero wishes to stay at City for the rest of his career.

‘Sergio Aguero has informed Manchester City he is willing to finish his career at the Etihad, sources close to both the player and the club have told ESPN FC, and officials no longer worry he has any desire to return to Spain,’ the piece begins.

Aguero is thought to be close to signing a new contract, and any previous thoughts of a move back to Spain have now been stubbed out. What a difference a Pep makes.

To the Daily Mirror now, and their claim that Tottenham are leading the race to sign Belgian striker Laurent Depoitre from Gent.

Depoitre is reportedly worth £12m, although only has 16 months on his current contract. With the striker refusing to sign a new deal, Gent are resigned to selling him in the summer for the highest possible fee.

There are seven Premier League clubs thought to hold an interest in signing Depoitre (Tottenham, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Leicester, Everton, West Brom and Southampton), with scouts from all seven watching him against Wolfsburg in the Champions League last week.
