Gossip: Can to Man City, Seri to Man Utd, Dzeko to Chelsea

CHELSEA WANT TO SIGN DZEKO?
Having heard that Chelsea are interested in signing Peter Crouch or Andy Carroll, it’s at least worth considering that they might try and get a good target man. That’s exactly what reports in Italy say they will do.

Unfortunately, this story comes from Calciomercato which means that it is almost certainly absolute guff. And then we find out that Sky Italy are saying the same thing, and we care a little more.

They report that Chelsea are prepared to pay a round €50m for Dzeko and his teammate Emerson Palmieri, while also giving them Michy Batshuayi on loan until the end of the season. It would be a massive surprise if Roma accepted that bid. Surely they will hold out for considerably more, given that Chelsea’s desperation is pretty apparent.

CAN TO MAN CITY, DEPENDS ON GORETZKA
To the Daily Mirror now, who report Manchester City interest in Emre Can. Can’s contract at Liverpool expires in the summer, and there has been little indication as yet that he will sign a new one.

Juventus and Bayern Munich have been the two clubs who have been most strongly linked with Can, and the Mirror quite reasonably claim that Juventus really want the player but that the player really wants Bayern.

However, they also mention City’s interest. If Bayern sign Leon Goretzka from Schalke and therefore do not require another midfielder, Can would prefer to join City on a free than Juventus. Fair enough.

LOTS OF CLUBS WANT SERI
Jean-Michael Seri is quickly becoming one of those fabled footballers who is constantly linked to a Premier League club who we eventually have to conclude does not exist.

We’re sticking with the Daily Mirror, because they say that Manchester United lead the chase for Seri, in a race that also includes Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City. That sounds like they’ve just named the top four.

Seri is a central midfielder with a £35m release clause, so it’s hardly outside the realms of possibility that any one of those clubs could make a move. Surely not in January, though.

AND THE REST
Newcastle want to sign Islam Slimani and Aaron Lennon on loan… Daniel Sturridge is on the verge of leaving Liverpool… West Brom could sign Michael Lang if Jonny Evans leaves… Brighton want PSV striker Jurgen Locadia.
