Gossip: Cavani, Giroud, Gotze, Sule

Don’t we all?

Juventus clearly like what they see at the Emirates Stadium. After being linked with a move for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez on Sunday, reports on Monday claim they will target another Gunner.

That man in question is the handsome one, Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has scored 12 goals in 30 Premier League games this season, but just two in 2016, both coming against Liverpool in January.

It’s a record Juventus admire, obviously. Not quite enough to make him their first-choice transfer target, according to Tuttosport, but enough to make him a back-up – as always. The Italian newspaper report that Juve want to sign Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain, but that if they fail to sign one 29-year-old striker, they will turn to another in Giroud. It’s a foolproof plan.

This Mario Gotze to Liverpool thing is actually happening, according to many a British newspaper. And when they’re basing their claims on the words of Jan Aage Fjortoft, you know it’s true.

The Daily Mirror, The Metro, Eurosport and the Daily Star carry this story, including the following Fjortoft tweets on lovable chubster Gotze’s continued struggles at Bayern Munich.

And that’s the transfer update. The Mirror brands Fjortoft a ‘Bundesliga insider’; the Star go one further and label him a ‘top expert’. Not one of those sh*te experts, a ‘top’ one. But not a ‘top, top, top’ one. Sorry, Jan Aage.

We finish with a line on Liverpool, who are searching for a defender, according to Bild. They must have seen the same game we all did on Sunday at St Mary’s Stadium.

The German newspaper links Hoffenheim centre-half Nicklas Sule with a move to Anfield. The 20-year-old has played every minute of Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga season thus far, which is not the greatest reflection of his work considering they are third from bottom and only four sides have conceded more goals.

But Sule has one redeeming factor: he is not Martin Skrtel. He also played alongside Roberto Firmino for a couple of seasons in Germany, and, according to the Daily Mirror ‘is believed to be a towering presence in the air’. He is 6’4″.
