Gossip: Cavani, Vardy, Dennis Bergkamp

MAN UNITED OFFERED CAVANI
We feel like we have written this before – oh yes, on Thursday – but L’Equipe claim that PSG are willing to sell Edinson Cavani to Manchester United for £32m. We’re not entirely convinced that buying a 28-year-old striker for £32m is really the answer to United’s problems…even if that 28-year-old striker has scored nine goals in Ligue Un this season.

Louis van Gaal has repeatedly talked about adding pace to his attack, so is Cavani really likely to be on the Dutchman’s wanted list? Or are PSG just trying to get serious Euros for a player whose value is only going to decrease? We suspect the latter.

VARDY TO COIN IT IN
Talking of 28-year-old strikers whose value is only going to decrease…

Astonishingly, Jamie Vardy will NOT be able to command £300,000 a week but he will be offered £90,000 a week by Leicester City, according to the Daily Star.

‘England recognition and the fact that he is the Premier League’s 14-goal top scorer means he has simply outgrown the £45,000 a week deal he signed just 15 months ago,’ says the Star, who claim that the deal will ward off interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.

BERGKAMP IN AT READING?
‘Reading are weighing up a move for Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp after sacking Steve Clarke,’ says the Daily Mirror, but we are rather more inclined to believe that Reading will go for the safer pair of hands that are on the ends of Nigel Pearson’s arms. Pearson is the 4/6 favourite for the job, so while Bergkamp is a sexy man to feature on your back page, we rather suspect that the Ajax coach will begin his managerial career elsewhere.
