Chelsea and Manchester United battle for a midfielder and Spurs beat City to a teenage sensation.

SARR FOR SPURS
It looks as though Tottenham have beaten off a fair bit of competition to sign one of the top young talents in Europe.

Sky Sports report that Spurs are close to agreeing a deal for 18-year-old Metz midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

The box-to-box star joined the French outfit in the summer of 2020, initially slotting into the reserve side, but quickly progressed to the first team, making 25 appearances and scoring four goals.

That form led to a number of top European clubs showing an interest – including Manchester City – and the report claims five teams put offers in front of both Metz and Sarr. But Spurs is the teenager’s preferred option.

Metz president Bernard Serin held an initial meeting with Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy on Monday, where a deal was agreed in principle.

It’s thought that Sarr will sign a six-year deal with Spurs, before being loaned back to Metz for the coming season.

EVERTON LOCKED IN
Everton are ‘locked in talks’ with Lazio over a deal for Joaquin Correa.

Rafael Benitez wants to find a replacement for James Rodriguez, who appears not to be part of his plans at Goodison Park.

Inter are also keen on Correa, who scored eight goals and assisted a further four in Serie A last season.

Alfredo Pedulla claims that the Toffees are readying a £25.7m bid for the Argentina international, who featured for his national team at the Copa America this summer.

TCHOU TCHOU
Chelsea appear to have been simultaneously handed a ‘blow’ and an ‘advantage’ in their bid to land Aurelien Tchouameni.

It was reported on Thursday that the Blues had ‘held fresh talks’ with the representatives of the Monaco midfielder, who has also frequently been linked with Manchester United.

And the Mirror now claim that United have also opened talks with his people – there’s your ‘blow’.

However, both Chelsea and United could ‘sign Tchouameni on the cheap’, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles; that’s an ‘advantage’.

Castles names both Chelsea and Manchester United in his speculation, as well as Juventus, and explains that Monaco’s Champions League campaign is key to the future of Tchouameni.

“They are halfway through their Champions League play-off with Shakhtar Donetsk, they lost the first leg 1-0. If they go out next week then the expectation is that their valuation of Tchouameni will be reduced and he will be accessible at a lower price than that.”

He’s currently valued at around £34million.
