Gossip: Coutinho eyes Barca, Liverpool v Man United for Keane

Catalan newspaper Sport are pretty clear that it is Philippe Coutinho and his advisors who are pushing for a move to Barcelona, who are very reluctant indeed to pay anywhere close to the £76m being demanded by Liverpool for a player who is not even among the top ten attacking midfielders of this Premier League season.

The consensus seems to be that the Brazilian needs to play an ‘active part’ in persuading Liverpool to lower their price, with Barcelona a little bit ‘meh’ about the whole thing.

As Guillem Balague said recently: “There are more stories coming out that Barcelona want Coutinho and he is willing to go. I have no doubt he is willing to go, but Barcelona are not after him.”

We told you on Sunday that there was absolutely no way that this move was ever going to happen, even if Jose Mourinho/Duncan Castles wanted you to think it might. And now the Daily Mail claim that the Argentine striker ‘would not entertain a transfer to Old Trafford and risk tarnishing his reputation with City supporters’. Quite right too.

Aguero may well leave City this summer but he will look for a club outside the Premier League, with PSG and Real Madrid thought to be interested in a player who will cost around £60m.

If you believe the back page of the Daily Mirror, then Liverpool are confident they ‘can beat Manchester United for Burnley defender Michael Keane’, with them going so far as to say that personal terms have been agreed in principle. The price would be around £25m.

But then the Daily Telegraph claim that United ‘are confident of winning the race’ as Keane himself wants to return to Old Trafford. Somebody is throwing somebody a bum steer.
