MANCHESTER UNITED LINKED WITH FONTE AND GODIN AGAIN. AND LEMOS. AND CAVANI
Flicking through the Sunday papers, it’s easy to tell that the transfer window is only three weeks away. Suddenly there is a buzz in the air as the transfer rumourers of the land pass each other in the street, not stopping to chat as they rush around on important business.
We’ll start with Manchester United, and the Mirror. Steve Bates writes that Jose Mourinho is not intending to buy any more prospects, but instead wants to focus on signings that are already at their peak. Bates writes that Mourinho would much prefer to sign Diego Godin or Jose Fonte than Antonio Rudiger, who is still only 23.
It’s weird, because elsewhere in the Mirror it says that United have been scouting 20-year-old Las Palmas defender Mauricio Lemos, who is getting praised for his performances this season. We’ll say what we always say here: If they’re good and young, it would be weirder if big clubs weren’t scouting them.
Finally we go to the Daily Express for their ever-reliable news. They say United are interested in the news that Edinson Cavani has not yet signed a new deal with Paris St Germain. Having been frustrated at being shunted out wide by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s presence in Paris, is Cavani really going to go for the same in Manchester?
ARSENAL WANT DRAXLER
Sticking with the Express, and an exclusive from Neil Fissler. He writes that Arsenal will make a £30m move for Julian Draxler of Wolfsburg in January.
Draxler has handed in a transfer request at Wolfsburg and was left out of the squad that played Bayern Munich on Saturday after his recent public words about the club. Wolfsburg are struggling in the Bundesliga, sitting 15th after losing 5-0 to Bayern.
If he does leave in January, Arsenal would be a possibility. Do they really need more midfielders, though?
ROSE TO MANCHESTER CITY?
Back to the Mirror now, and it’s a story that has been touted for a while. Steve Bates (busy guy, isn’t he) writes that Pep Guardiola wants to sign Danny Rose for a fee of £25m.
A few things:
1) It is perfectly possible that Manchester City might want Rose.
2) If Rose does leave to a top-four rival, it would surely be for a lot more than £25m.
3) On point 2, Rose only signed a new five-year deal in September. You’re looking at £35m plus.
