Gossip: Gomes, Herrera, Coutinho, Deeney

Our first news comes from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who has his own transfer news website. This really is a brave new world.

Pedulla claims that Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes could be on the way to Manchester United after they made a bid of £35.2m.

The Daily Star report the story, but then casually add their own list of United midfield targets: Saul Niguez, Paul Pogba and Joao Mario. Of the lot, Mario would be the most intriguing.

Back to Gomes, and it’s worth pointing out the logic of the move. After all, we’ll let you guess who the midfielder’s agent is. Let’s just say it begins with ‘J’ and ends in ‘Orge f*cking Mendes’.

As Jose Mourinho looks to start shaping his squad at Manchester United, one player understood to be on his way out of Old Trafford is midfielder Ander Herrera.

Despite United having spent £29million to land Herrera from Athletic Bilbao two years ago, the Spaniard has failed to truly establish himself in the Premier League, often being used in various different roles. He’s still not won a senior cap for Spain.

And according to the Daily Express, who cite reports from Spanish outlet El Confidencial, Herrera was among the names Mourinho told Ed Woodward could leave the club.

The name of Philippe Coutinho keeps being mentioned regarding a move away from Anfield, however much we can’t see Liverpool selling for any price.

The Sun use a report from Le 10 Sport in France which claims that Barcelona and Paris St Germain have both contacted Coutinho’s agent over a summer move. They also claim that Coutinho has set his heart on a move.

The report suggests that the bid from PSG would be £25m. We can imagine Liverpool’s response to that, ‘off’ and ‘sod’ in a different order.

We have already heard this morning of Arsenal’s attempts to sign Riyad Mahrez alongside Jamie Vardy, but now to Leicester’s plans for plugging an increasingly large hole in their squad.

The Daily Telegraph report that Leicester will make a £15m bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney, and actually say that they will proceed with the bid whatever the future of Vardy.

Deeney scored 13 league goals last season. He is Watford’s captain and seems happy at the club, but it’s hard to overestimate the importance of Champions League football. This is your chance to become a star.
