Gossip: Howe and Ake in, Alderweireld out at Spurs?

HOWE DO YOU LIKE THAT SPURS JOB?
It’s hidden at the bottom of a gossip story about Chelsea having first refusal on Nathan Ake for £40m – with Tottenham and Manchester United both said to be interested in the Dutchman – but the Daily Telegraph have sparked our interest with their suggestion that Howe ‘would be the leading contender to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham’.

We suggested as much in Mediawatch on Friday after Neil Ashton wrote a whole load of guff about Howe earning a move to Manchester City and United. Howe to Spurs makes sense…especially if he takes Ake with him.

ALDERWEIRELD TO BARCA?
Now this is neat. According to the Daily Mirror, Barcelona believe they can buy Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham in January after admitting that they it would be “impossible” to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax in the winter transfer window.

Alderweireld has long been linked with Manchester United, but Spurs are far more likely to be open to selling him to Spain rather than a rival for a Champions League place.

DE JONG TO MAN CITY
Manchester City are willing to break their transfer record for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, who have made it their business because Barcelona have also been linked with the 21-year-old.

Barcelona and Tottenham are both said to have failed with bids under £50m but City have apparently told Ajax that they will pay £62m, which would break their transfer record despite them being richer than God.
