STUDGE IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU
Do you have an England international forward who is not getting regular football? If so, please contact Southampton. For Friday morning brings news of their interest in both Daniel Sturridge and Theo Walcott.
Flush from the incoming windfall from the Virgil van Dijk sale, Saints are expected to stay at the negotiation table with Liverpool. According to the Daily Telegraph, they want Sturridge on loan until the end of the season.
Jeremy Wilson, who broke the Van Dijk news, adds that ‘a list of targets are being considered or actively worked upon’ at St Mary’s, with manager Mauricio Pellegrino prioritising ‘pace, power and goals’. All three are good things, to be fair.
Southampton believe a loan deal would appeal ‘to all parties’, and they are also interested in Fulham full-back Ryan Sessegnon. Considering Real Madrid are supposedly monitoring him, let’s wish Saints the best of luck.
THEO-NLY WAY IS UP
But yes, they also want Walcott. John Cross of the Daily Mirror writes that Southampton are interested in another loan move for Walcott, but would also entertain a permanent return for their former striker.
They ‘are ready’ to meet Walcott’s £140,000-a-week current wage, and hope that their existing relationship with the player can persuade him to turn down Everton and West Ham.
Cross adds that Saints also want Moussa Dembele. Busy winter, this.
The Sun have an exclusive for you: Manchester United have offered Juventus £70million plus Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Paulo Dybala.
What’s more, Juventus have already turned it down. Alvise Cagnazzo, with his gloriously Italian name, tells us that The Old Lady ‘want around £86m’ for the striker. Which means Mkhitaryan is valued at less than £16m. Harsh.
”Mourinho is desperate to add more creativity to his attack and appears to have given up on the idea of Mikhitaryan [sic] providing it,’ Cagnazzo writes, before going on to explain why the club want him more than Antoine Griezmann. He is two years younger, basically.
