“I can’t promise I will stay at Real Madrid. I have offers and seven days to think [about them].”
So begins James Rodriguez’s personal remix of Craig David’s seminal classic. He got an offer from Manchester United on Monday. City took him out for a drink on Tuesday. And I’d rather not disclose what Chelsea plan to do to him on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. There will be no chilling involved, that’s for sure.
But basically, Rodriguez is expected to leave Real Madrid. The Sun go as far as to claim that he has ‘opened the door’ to a move to Chelsea. He will be the rather expensive replacement for the rather expensive Oscar, who is off to the Chinese Super League for £60million.
The Colombian has found his playing opportunities restricted at the Santiago Bernabeu this season. He has started just four La Liga games and three in the Champions League – although he will still cost around £75million.
TALK TO FRANCK
The news from Calciomercato is that Tottenham have lodged a bid for Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie. What’s more, they’ve managed to scare Juventus off by doing so.
The offer from the north London club reportedly reaches around £19.2million, while Juventus are unwilling to go above £17m. It leaves Tottenham at the front of a queue with a decidedly Premier League feel, as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested.
Ivorian midfielder Kessie has impressed this season, missing just two Serie A games for Atalanta and scoring five goals.
BLESS YOU, MATHIEU
From one potentially excellent central midfielder to one who remains brilliant, Mathieu Flamini’s time in the Premier League might well be over. He is leaving Crystal Palace.
The Frenchman is free to quit Selhurst Park in January, according to the Daily Mirror, and has already planned a route to Ligue Un’s Marseille, where he can finalise his plans for world domination.
He started just one game since joining the club from Arsenal in the summer. That was in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United. He was substituted at half-time. File this one under ‘that went well’.
