Gossip: Lallana to Tottenham, Matic wants United

Daniel Storey

Well, well. The Sun have taken time out of their Louis van Gaal diary to give us a very different exclusive, namely that Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign Adam Lallana from Liverpool this summer.

The Sun claim that Pochettino has told Daniel Levy to make a £20m offer for Lallana, who he worked with successfully at Southampton. Given that Liverpool paid £25m for the England international, it would seem strange for them to accept a loss.

Lallana has also started 36 matches this season, and seems an ideal player for Jurgen Klopp’s high-intensity style. However, with reported Liverpool interest in both Mario Gotze and Marco Reus, perhaps Lallana is in danger of being forced out of the first team.

Also, whose position does he take in that Tottenham midfield?

Nemanja Matic wants to leave Chelsea and will snub reported interest from Juventus in the hope of joining Manchester United. That’s according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail say Matic would prefer to stay in England despite interest from Italy, and wants to follow former manager Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford, should the Portuguese coach be appointed this summer.

That’s all very well, but it’s not quite how it works, fella. If you’re holding out for a Manchester United move, it might be worth checking to see if they want you first. Because you’ve been rotten for large swathes of this season.

And yes, that is a S Club Juniors reference in the headline. Sue me.

To the Daily Mirror now, and another player who could be leaving Liverpool for £20m+. Can’t help thinking that supporters might be a little happier with this one.

Having paid £32.5m for Christian Benteke and promptly watched him look less at home than an elephant in an igloo, Liverpool are almost certain to cut their losses on the Belgian this summer. The Mirror claim that those losses may only be £7.5m, with West Ham close to making a £25m bid for the striker.

The Mirror also report West Ham interest in Michy Batshuayi and Alexandre Lacazette. That cheap rent at the Olympic Stadium sure does have its benefits.
