Gossip: Lemar to Liverpool, Neymar moving for FREE!

Date published: Monday 31st July 2017 2:15

There are an awful lot of things that must happen before Thomas Lemar could actually join Liverpool. These are…

1) Neymar joining PSG.

2) Philippe Coutinho joining Barcelona.

3) Monaco agreeing to sell Thomas Lemar.

4) Arsenal not signing Thomas Lemar.

So all in all, it seems unlikely, but we are grateful to French publication Le 10 Sport (and Sport Witness for the translation) for this brand-new piece of transfer gossip.

Well, the first part of that Lemar chain may well happen this week, with Neymar – according to Qatar’s Al-Watan newspaper – due to arrive in Qatar this week to meet PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and then undergo a medical ahead of his free transfer to the French club.

Free transfer? No, we have not entirely lost our minds – it seems that PSG’s way to get around FFP could be for Qatar to pay Neymar 222 million euros to be a World Cup ambassador, though he will use that money to buy himself out of his Barcelona contract. It all sounds entirely kosher.

So this is back again. After reports that Ross Barkley was demanding £150,000 a week at Tottenham a few weeks ago, the same stories emerge again but with the numbers changed to £120,000 a week. The Daily Mirror say that ‘Tottenham target Ross Barkley will have to slash his wage demands or risk scuppering a move to Spurs’ as they will not offer him more than £100,000 a week. Oh and they say that Everton are still ‘demanding close to £40million’, which sounds like a bigger issue right now.

The Daily Mail clearly have the same source as they claim that ‘Tottenham want Ross Barkley to set realistic wage demands’, though they say that Everton want ‘upwards of £35m’. So we can all clearly prepare for a £25m move on August 31.
