Gossip: Lewandowski, Walker, Bellerin, Ramsey…

As soon as we read the quotes from Robert Lewandowski’s agent detailing his disappointment with Carlo Ancelotti, we knew links with Premier League clubs were only a matter of time. First up are the Daily Mirror with a claim that Chelsea have ‘made a stunning move’ for the Polish striker with the phenomenal goalscoring record.

Chelsea want two new strikers this summer, with Diego Costa heading back to Atletico Madrid (via somewhere else) and Michy Batshuayi also likely to be sold. They are finding Everton stubborn negotiators as the Goodison Park club will only sell Romelu Lukaku for a fee approaching £100m. They ‘retain an interest’ in both Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti, it says here.

Our first reaction to this back page of the Daily Star was to remark that that’s probably why Manchester City are buying Dani Alves instead, but Chief Sports Writer Jeremy Cross is adamant that Pep Guardiola wants two full-backs ‘after seeing Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy leave the club’. Anybody spot the flaw in that theory?

Either Cross is suggesting that one of Alves or Walker could play left-back or he is just helping somebody keep Walker’s availability on the back pages and handily letting every club know that £45m will do the trick. We suspect the latter.

Barcelona were hoping that Hector Bellerin would make enough noise to force Arsenal to sell the right-back for around £45m, but the Gunners are adamant that they will lose no other big names but Alexis Sanchez this summer and have told the Spanish full-back that he is staying put.

The Daily Telegraph also bring the news that contract talks will be opened with Aaron Ramsey, whose contract expires in 2019. But there is still a ‘stand-off’ between Arsenal and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who wants rather more money than his status would suggest.
