LIVERPOOL AND LEMAR: THEY WILL OR THEY WON’T
Top work on Monday morning, with two different outlets giving completely opposite takes on the same story.

In the Daily Mirror, John Cross writes that Liverpool will react to selling Philippe Coutinho by making a move for Thomas Lemar and trying to get a deal done in January.

Monaco have made it perfectly clear that they do not wish to sell Lemar in January, and will reject all offers. However, although Lemar has not agitated for a move it is pretty obvious that he does want to leave Monaco for the Premier League. Is it merely a question of when?

However, Sky Sports say that Liverpool will not bring forward any possible move for Thomas Lemar after selling Coutinho. Glad that’s clear then.

GRIEZMANN. MAN UNITED. £400,000 A WEEK.
‘ANTOINE GRIEZMANN will demand a staggering £400,000-a-week to snub Barcelona and join Manchester United,’ is the first line of the Sun’s online-only exclusive by Daniel Cutts. The man just loves using those sources.

We’re told that United originally offered £290,000 per week to Griezmann, but that he is now asking for an extra £100,000 a week. He also uses a source – as is customary – close to United who says that these demands might put United off making a move.

As ever with this guy, we’ll believe it when we see it. Which is almost certainly never.

NEWCASTLE LIMITED ONLY TO LOANS
This really isn’t the news Newcastle supporters want to hear. Despite constant chatter that a takeover is close to completion, the Daily Mail reckon that talks between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley continue to stall.

That will have repercussions in the transfer market too. We’re told that Newcastle will only be allowed to sign players on loan rather than permanent deals in January, which is hardly an effective way of steeling a squad for a relegation battle.

Chelsea’s Kenedy is reportedly close to a loan move, but talk of Joe Hart is apparently wide of the mark because Newcastle will not pay his wages to him or anyone else. This is a club trying to secure Premier League survival on a comparative shoestring. Silly.

AND THE REST
Manchester City are ready to make a £50m bid for Harry Maguire… Fulham are set to sign Southampton left-back Matt Targett on loan… Jese Rodriguez is closing in on a move to hometown club Las Palmas… Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay extra to bring Naby Keita to Merseyside now… Arsenal are closing in on West Brom defender Jonny Evans.
