Liverpool close in on Thiago, four clubs send scouts to watch Bailey…
LIVERPOOL ‘VERY CLOSE’ TO THIAGO COUP
Thiago Alcantara wants a move from Bayern Munich after refusing to sign a new contract, and he is reportedly most keen on a move to the Premier League, despite PSG circling. But then, they always are.
And Sport claim that Liverpool are getting ‘very close’ to a deal for Thiago, with Jurgen Klopp a ‘huge fan’ of the 29-year-old. Let’s face it, who isn’t?
And in a world of exorbitant transfer fees, the report claims the Spain international could be available for as little as 35million Euros. Which seems an almost ludicrously low price for a beautiful footballer.
Thiago has one year left on his current Bayern deal and was close to signing a new contract but has hesitated with his starting place under threat. The former Barcelona man has struggled with injury recently, allowing Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to impress together in central midfield in his absence.
And if he watched Liverpool get mauled by Man City on Thursday, he might fancy his chances of more game time on Merseyside.
TWO MORE KEPAS
The Daily Express went with the headline ‘Chelsea eye two Kepa Arrizabalaga transfer replacements after West Ham horror show’.
‘Horror show’ may be a bit strong. He was a bit pathetic though. And thoughts that he might do a David de Gea and learn to not be quite such a wimp when attempting to come for crosses is starting to turn to feelings that it may be time for Chelsea to admit defeat.
And the two the Express claim Chelsea are ‘eyeing’ are Alphonse Areola, the PSG goalkeeper on loan at Real Madrid, and Mike Maignan, who may sound like a plumber from Dudley, but is in fact the Lille stopper.
Le 10 Sport claim Frank Lampard will have to battle Jose Mourinho for Maignan, who the Spurs boss sees as the natural replacement for Hugo Lloris. But Chelsea’s need is perhaps greater right now.
FOUR IN FOR BAILEY
Leon Bailey is reportedly desperate to move to the Premier League, and is working with Raheem Sterling’s agents, Colossal Sports Management, to boost his chances of a deal.
But the deal is far from colossal. It’s not even huge. You could say it’s reasonable. Though Reasonable Sports Management would be something of an oxymoronic name for a football agency.
Bayer Leverkusen were originally thought to be asking for £60million for Bailey, but the winger could now be available for as little as £20million, as the Bundesliga club struggle in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
