Gossip: Lukaku wants Man United (though he says…)

Romelu Lukaku has already reacted pretty disparagingly to this gossip but it’s on the back page of the biggest-selling British newspaper so our job is to bring it to you with a hefty dose of cynicism.

According to The Sun, ‘ROMELU LUKAKU could turn his back on a Chelsea return’. They go on to document that Lukaku is ‘worried as to how he would fit in with Antonio Conte’s style of play’. Which is odd. If Diego Costa can fit in, then why not Lukaku?

The report suggests he is leaning towards opting for Manchester United, where he believes he is ‘more valued’. Quite how The Sun know what Lukaku ‘believes’ is another question…

We have seen variations on this theme many times but Sun Senior Digital Sports Reporter Warren Haughton claims that Chelsea ‘are weighing up a £70million double raid on Roma with moves for Radja Nainggolan and Antonio Rudiger’. That would certainly seem to suggest that Antonio Conte is staying beyond this season.

Chelsea will need reinforcements as they add Champions League football to their domestic duties and the thought of pairing N’Golo Kante with Nainggolan is very sexy indeed.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Sunderland will find it very difficult to resist offers of £25m plus add-ons for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Arsenal, Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham are all credited with an interest in Pickford. As manager David Moyes says: “Obviously, it’s up to the club, but if Jordan was to go elsewhere and not be the number one, that wouldn’t be good for him.”
