IT’S THE POGBA, MATIC, FRED SHOW
We are expecting confirmation of Manchester United’s £52m signing of Fred any day now. Does that mean that Paul Pogba is no longer required? No it does not, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who works for The Guardian among others. According to him, ‘Man United do NOT want to sell Paul Pogba this summer: Jose Mourinho has decided, he doesn’t want Paul to leave the club.’
So we are going to see at least one season of a Fred-Matic-Pogba midfield triumvirate at Old Trafford. If they still finish 19 points behind Manchester City, it must be head on a stick time.
GERRARD EYES LIVERPOOL LOANS
Of course he does. And it looks very likely that Ovie Ejaria will be the first Liverpool player to make the journey north to play in Scotland for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. If he has his way, Dominic Solaanke will follow him. The England international (yes, really) is said to be unsure whether Liverpool will send him out on loan next season after he struggled for minutes in his first campaign on Merseyside.
“Gerrard’s a legend. He has done so much for Liverpool and for football,” said Solanke recently. “I’m happy he has got the Rangers job and it will be good for him. I’m intrigued to see how he’s going to do.”
EVERTON EYE LASCELLES
Now this is a transfer that very much makes sense. The Sun say that ‘MARCO SILVA is set to take advantage of uncertainty at Newcastle with a £30million bid for Jamaal Lascelles’. They certainly need a new centre-half (or three) and there certainly is uncertainty at Newcastle, with Rafa Benitez yet to commit to the club.
The report casually says that ‘Liverpool have also tracked Lascelles’ as if that’s common knowledge. There will certainly be enough interest in Lascelles to create some tension at St James’ Park this summer. Would Newcastle turn down £30m? They certainly should…
