Gossip: Man Utd hit with double transfer blow

HAALAND TO DORTMUND?
Well, well. This makes sense as there have been suggestions that Erling Braut Haaland would prefer a stepping stone club rather than joining a Real Madrid or Juventus from Red Bull Salzburg this January. And German publication Ruhr Nachrichten claims that he landed in Dortmund with his agent Mino Raiola this week for talks with the German club, who would be very happy indeed to sign the 19-year-old Norwegian for less than £20m.

Still, we cynically still expect him to join RB Leipzig so that his bargain release clause fee is kept in house before a big move to bring in the big money. Either way, it looks like Manchester United might be out of the equation.

BETTER CALL SAUL
After Wednesday’s gossip that Manchester United will sell Paul Pogba and target either Saul Niguez and Donny van de Beek comes the warning from Spain that Atletico Madrid will be asking for an ‘astronomical fee’ for Saul. This comes from Mundo Deportivo, who said such a big would be ‘impossible to ignore’.

The number mentioned in all the English reports is £128m. Ours is not to wonder how and why they have arrived at that figure but simply to relay this claim. So that’s an awful lot of money for a player who has never played outside Spain.

ANCELOTTI IN FOR EVERTON TALKS
‘Everton have stolen a march as (Carlo) Ancelotti’s representative flew into London last night to meet them BEFORE discussions with Arsenal,’ claims The Sun, but we know from David Ornstein and others that the Italian is not really Arsenal’s cup of tea, so we suspect this news is designed to spur the Gunners into action. ‘Sources close to Ancelotti say he has been left feeling as though Everton want him as their first choice, but that Arsenal are far less decided,’ continues the report.

Everton are said to be ready to give Ancelotti a two-and-a-half-year deal and ‘funds’ to turn things around at Goodison Park.
