LET’S TALK ABOUT SESS, BABY
Manchester United have apparently been in touch with Fulham over Ryan Sessegnon. Presumably not just to wish him happy birthday…
The Cottagers’ starlet turns 19 today and as a gift, United are apparently keen to hand him a contract and a front row seat for Ole’s revolution. Sky Sports reckons the Red Devils are the only club to have made a formal approach for Sessegnon, despite Tottenham and Juventus each retaining a long-standing interest in the left-sided teenager.
Sessegnon is a year from free agency and Fulham recognise they have little hope of persuading him to sign new terms.
NO RASH DECISION
United have a similar concern over Marcus Rashford. The England striker still has two years remaining on his deal at Old Trafford but Ed Woodward is meeting resistance in his attempts to get the academy graduate to recommit to the club.
The Sun claims Rashford wants assurances over United’s rebuild and he wants to see that they are heading in the right direction before he signs away the next five years of his career. Maybe that’s part of United’s problem. Everyone is stood waiting for someone else to take the lead.
DE LIGT DELIGHT FOR WOODWARD?
The signing of Matthijs De Ligt would go a long way to easing Rashford’s concerns. It was presumed United were out of the running for the 19-year-old defender since they could not offer the immediate prospect of Champions League football but, apparently, all hope is not yet lost.
The Telegraph has ‘sources in Amsterdam close to De Ligt’ who believe the centre-back is still open to the prospect of being the poster boy of United’s rebuild.
Mino Raiola reckons United would be a good move for De Ligt for very different reasons and with his agent in his ear, perhaps United could still surprise everyone. It would certainly be a statement of their renewed strength, even if structurally, they remain a mess.
TOFFEES CHEW OVER WILSON DEAL
Everton need a goalscorer. They’ve needed a goalscorer for bloody ages, and it seems Marco Silva is determined to finally do something about it.
Callum Wilson is the Toffees’ primary target, according to The Sun. But a £35million deal for the Bournemouth striker would come with an added cost.
Everton will have to sell some of their deadwood to fund a spending spree this summer but there is hardly a queue forming outside Goodison for the likes of Oumar Niasse, Cenk Tosun, Sandro Ramirez and Nikola Vlasic. So, to get his hands on some fast money, Silva may be forced to sell Idrissa Gueye to PSG.
Silva also needs to strengthen his goalkeeping ranks, but the Daily Mail claims the Everton boss is looking to save a few quid by signing Jonas Lossl on a free after the Denmark keeper left Huddersfield.
