Gossip: Mbappe, Fabregas, Eriksen, Azpilicueta, Kroos

Hooo boy. You wait a month for a day of decent gossip (or should that be delicious bullsh*t?) and then it all comes at once. It’s like London buses, but London buses being linked with a move to the Barcelona transport system. This analogy has stopped working.

Anyway, our first dose comes from Dave Woods in the Daily Star. I know it’s the Star, but Woods is at least their chief sports writer. Today’s exclusive is that Cesc Fabregas (who made our top ten central midfielders of the season despite barely playing) will be wanted by Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, should Chelsea agree to let him leave.

The supposition was that Fabregas would leave for Serie A having been pushed from centre (midfield) stage by Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3. Yet Fabregas is reportedly keen to stay in England.

Do I see Manchester United signing Fabregas, who turns 30 tomorrow, this summer? No, I do not.

Told you we had meaty gossip lines. Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, something of the Italian transfer guru, reports that Manchester United have had an €85m bid for Kylian Mbappe rejected by Monaco.

We’re also told that Monaco dismissed the bid because they are determined not to sell Mbappe, but would be persuaded if an offer of between €120m and €140m came in. It’s an awful lot of money, but you can also see Monaco’s point.

Di Marzio also writes that United hold an interest in Radja Nainggolan, but if that deal proves tricky they could aim for Fabinho or Toni Kroos. Lots of names.

From one big club looking to go big after a disappointing season to another.

Firstly, Barcelona have been linked with a move for Christian Eriksen this summer, after the Dane has enjoyed a superb season at Tottenham. However, Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots is keeping schtum over those rumours:

“I prefer not to comment on what the newspapers write about the future. The only thing Christian wants to do is focus on playing his matches. We let the rumours be rumoured, even now, when Christian’s merits as a player who sets up a goal are better than anyone else, and now he scores also very important goals. Christian just wants to be important for the team, it is the only thing that matters to him.”

Elsewhere, Spanish newspaper Sport writes that Barcelona will target Cesar Azpilicueta this summer, as an alternative to Hector Bellerin. Bellerin is still Barca’s priority, but the club understand that a deal could be difficult to complete.

Quick one now, included because it surprised me. Josh King has been bloody brilliant for most of this season, but is he really ready to make the step up to a club like Tottenham, and avoid becoming anything other than a bit-part player?

In the Daily Mirror, Adrian Kajumba writes that Spurs have added King to their ‘summer transfer short-list’. The story is remarkably low on detail, other than to say Bournemouth would expect at least £15m for King. You paid that for Jordon Ibe, lads.
