Gossip: Pogba eyes early Man Utd exit, City to break Van Dijk’s record

Paul Pogba has told his Manchester United team-mates that he’s sorry for being a massive egg and he will knuckle down and start justifying his reputation and salary. Not really…

The United midfielder’s future remains the subject of most of the Sunday morning whispers, with AS claiming Pogba has told Ed Woodward that he expects to join Real Madrid and that an Alexis Sanchez-sized wage packet is waiting for him at the Bernabeu. Laughably, AS says Pogba has moved early and decisively to avoid becoming ‘the soap opera of the summer’. Bullsh*t.

Pogba might want to have a word in Mino Raiola’s shell-like because The Observer reckons the agent has agreed with Juventus to talk again during the summer over a possible return for the France star to Turin. The biggest obstacle: Juve would have to shift ‘two or three important players’ to fund any deal, with Miralem Pjanic and Douglas Costa mentioned as two possible departures.

PSG would happily take Pjanic, with Corriere dello Sport claiming the beaten Coupe de France finalists have offered €70million (£60.5m) for the midfielder, but Juve are looking for closer to €100million (£86m).

While negotiating over Pjanic, PSG and Juve could also be fighting over David de Gea this summer. Le10Sport and Rai Sport both report that the Man Utd keeper is high among the summer priorities for both clubs, with Gianluigi Buffon’s future in Paris apparently under scrutiny, while Wojciech Szczesny could be on his way out of Juve.

While Old Trafford burns, across Manchester, all is calm ahead of the summer. Pep Guardiola expects to make a few key additions, and The Sun reckons Harry Maguire’s massive head could be one of them.

Not that the Leicester defender would come cheap. The Foxes have recognised the opportunity to pull in a record fee for a defender, with City perhaps having to go as high as £90million to land Maguire. Any 2019 bonus codes would be wisely invested in City going for the title again should they lure Maguire.

While City and Leicester go back and forth, James Tarkowski waits. Apparently, Brendan Rodgers has identified the Burnley centre-back as an ideal replacement for Maguire, while Tarkowski is also seen as an alternative for City should they fail to seal a deal for the England star who cost Leicester £17million two years ago.

PSG and Marseille are interested in Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez… Lyon have been in touch with Arsene Wenger about replacing Bruno Genesio… Marco Bielsa’s future is the subject of confusion with conflicting reports over the prospect of the coach staying at Elland Road… Sam Allardye could return to management with India… DC United, Aston Villa and Huddersfield all want to sign Everton centre-back Ashley Williams… Burnley and Wolves are scrapping for 17-year-old Hamilton centre-back Jamie Hamilton.
