Gossip: Real back for De Gea, Spurs want world record fee

Whispers in recent days suggest Zinedine Zidane’s return to Real Madrid is bad news for Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester City. It seems Manchester United could suffer too…

The Sunday Mirror reckons Zidane has made clear that he wants David de Gea defending his goal rather than Thibaut Courtois. Apparently, £75million of Zidane’s transfer kitty has been earmarked for the Spain goalkeeper who, like Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen, has only a year remaining on his current contract.

United have been trying to get De Gea to commit to a new deal without putting Sanchez-sized wages on the table, and Zidane’s interest could prompt Ed Woodward to pull his finger out.

It was presumed that Real’s capture of Courtois last summer would finally end the persistent rumours of De Gea returning to Madrid, but Zidane doesn’t fancy Mr Tickle all that much. For his first game in charge on Saturday, he dropped the Belgium keeper to the bench, with Kaylor Navas returning to the sticks.

Some more detail on Eriksen. The Daily Star reckons Tottenham are resigned to selling the Denmark star, but they want £200million for the 26-year-old who is out of contract at the end of next season.

Whatever Spurs get for Eriksen, it seems they plan to reinvest in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. Friday’s Gossip offered five potential targets while one report on Sunday morning suggests there is another name – a familiar one – in the frame.

The Sunday Mirror says Tottenham are preparing a £50million offer for Ryan Sessegnon who, like seemingly everyone else, has only a year remaining on his current deal. The Fulham teenager has been a long-term target for Spurs and competition from Man Utd and PSG appears to have focused their minds on making a serious bid.

One thing Spurs have going for them: Sessegnon is apparently keen to stay in London, and the commute to Manchester or PSG would be a bitch.

Real could send Gareth Bale to Chelsea as part of a swap deal for Eden Hazard… If Hazard goes, Chelsea will again block Callum Hudson-Odoi’s move to Bayern Munich… Spurs are watching Benfica striker Joao Pedro Neves Filipe… Inter Milan are willing to sell Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic this summer… Arsenal want Aaron Wan-Bissaka but Palace want £40m… United, City and Spurs all want Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele… Barcelona are keen on Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez… Sevilla have opened talks with Monchi over a return to the club.
