Christian Eriksen Paul Pogba Tottenham Manchester United

ERIKSEN STALEMATE
The Guardian report that at the heart of the impasse between Tottenham and Christian Eriksen is a falling out between Daniel Levy and the player’s agent, Martin Schoots. As a result – and this may or may not be relevant to the side’s poor form – Spurs have no indication of what the player’s intentions are ahead of the European transfer deadline on Monday.

There’s no detail about the nature of that falling out, or even what originally caused it, but one imagines that being repeatedly low-balled by Levy tends to come across as antagonistic and, over the long term, has hardly helped this situation.

He’ll still cost any suitors £50m, so if no offers have come in yet, they surely won’t in the next couple of days.

POG OFF
Real Madrid will keep an eye on the Eriksen situation, but Marca repeat the line that Zinedine Zidane is only interested in Paul Pogba. He ‘hasn’t become any less desirable’ to the Bernabeu coach, whose ‘desire’ has ‘not faded’.

The Spanish club are ‘attentive to all movements’, which is fine but there are none. United are ‘still asking for 200 million euros’ and Pogba ‘doesn’t plan to force an exit’ despite his own aspirations.

Zidane is ‘holding out for his compatriot’. He will have to wait a while.

ZLATAN’S THREAT
Oh no. Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to come back to England. That’s according to the man himself, whose latest quotes suggest that he is running out of patience with the standard of MLS football.

“The lion still roars, yes. I could still play easily in the Premier League. If United needs me, I’m here.”

A good player, even in his late 30s, but – my God – is there a duller athlete on the face of the planet? Is there another so in thrall to his own branding schtick and so naked in his attempts to draw his own legend?

That’ll be a ‘thanks but no thanks’ from Solskjaer and United.

NEVER FANCIED HER ANYWAY
Roberto Martinez has applied quite the spin to Romelu Lukaku’s move to Inter Milan. The Mirror have picked up his quotes and they’ve got news for anyone who thought that the forward was marginalised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because of his inconsistent form, patchy goal-scoring record and poor conditioning.

“Romelu needed a new challenge. Sometimes you get bored of a club. Working with Conte will please him and the project of Inter, who will chase the title, is interesting. I saw Lukaku laugh again and it made me happy.”

Right then. Okay.

IT’SA ME, MAURO
An interesting little bit from Italy and the ongoing Mauro Icardi situation. Obviously Icardi has outstayed his welcome at Inter Milan and Antonio Conte seems to have no intention of offering any olive branches. And that’s alerted Napoli, who have spent the summer playing with the idea of offering free-agent Fernando Llorente a contract, but who could launch a last-minute bid for Icardi if his situation at San Siro really is irretrievable.

That’s according Football Italia, at least. So yeah.

AND THE REST
Nacho Monreal looks set to leave Arsenal before the weekend… Serge Aurier wants out of Spurs… Paul Pogba still desires that move to Madrid – according to his brother… Cenk Tosun is determined to stay and fight for his place at Everton despite interest from Germany… Brighton are ready to give up on Jurgen Locadia.
