Gossip: Real Madrid offer Poch escape route from Spurs

Are the stars aligning for Mauricio Pochettino to Real Madrid? The Sun certainly think so, and it would certainly add up. Poch cut a forlorn figure on a battered Wembley touchline last night and has admitted this is currently the worst he’s felt in his five years in north London.

While Spurs are currently sh*t and stadiumless, Real Madrid are… well, they’ve got a stadium. There are still reports floating around suggesting the job is basically Antonio Conte’s but Marca reckon his man-management style has been poo-pooed by senior Madrid stars, while bringing in the Italian would also end Real’s hopes of a £100m move for Eden Hazard after the two fell out at Chelsea.

Back in The Sun, and the suggestion is that representatives from the Bernabeu met with ‘people close to Pochettino’ and gave ‘promising reports’ to chairman Florentino Perez. They want a new man in within the month.

Pochettino reiterated his commitment to Spurs after Monday’s borderline farcical 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, but after a nightmare summer and the continued uncertainty around the new stadium, an objective analysis suggests it might be a good time for the Argentine to bail.

Marca suggest Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, a man with an extraordinary ability to move seamlessly into better and better jobs based on scant evidence, is also in the frame.

Barcelona flop Ousmane Dembele is back on the market in January, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea the three names plucked from The Sun’s big transfer hat today.

Liverpool are obviously dangerously short of attacking talent, but the idea of Arsenal reuniting him with former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is certainly an exciting one. Dembele in a front three with Eden Hazard and non-scoring handsome hero Olivier Giroud sounds all right too, to be fair.

Jose Mourinho will have a lovely big wad of cash to spunk in January, according to The Guardian, with £100m available for the Manchester United boss to address the two key weaknesses he’s identified in his current pauper’s squad: attacking and defending.

He wants another centre-back – Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng are the eclectic trio named here – and a striker that isn’t Romelu Lukaku. He wants the moon on a stick.

The Sun suggest things aren’t quite so rosy, however, with Mourinho apparently ‘fuming’ after Ed Woodward cancelled a ‘transfer summit’ at the last minute.
