REAL ‘TO TEST LIVERPOOL’S RESOLVE’ OVER SALAH
Real Madrid are this morning planning a £200million-plus revamp of their attack. And that doesn’t include the £100million it’ll cost them to loosen Chelsea’s grip on Eden Hazard.
It begins with Luka Jovic. According to Sky Sports, the Eintracht Frankfurt centre-forward has tied up a £52.4million move to the Bernabeu. Signed, sealed and delivered, apparently. The 21-year-old will earn £167,000 a week for five years. Which is nice, isn’t it?
No one appears to have told Canal+, though. Because the French outlet claims that Zinedine Zidane wants a front three of Karim Benzema, Hazard and Mo Salah next season.
It is said that Real will ‘test Liverpool’s resolve’ over their desire to keep Salah beyond the Champions League final. Or rather, they’ll continue to get the media to do their bidding for them in the hope Salah turns to Jurgen Klopp and asks to go. Which seems unlikely, as does the prospect of Real coming up with the kind of money that might tempt Liverpool into doing business.
CITY TO RIVAL BARCA FOR GRIEZMANN
Across Madrid, Antoine Griezmann is doing his best to make it all about him. There is no documentary yet, though that’s only because Atletico told him to stop being an egg.
Griezmann might not win a BAFTA, but he will most likely earn a move to one of Barcelona, Bayern or Manchester City.
Barca, surprisingly, haven’t been put off last summer’s docu-drama when Griezmann broadcasted his decision to shun the Nou Camp in favour of staying at Atletico. Goal claims Barca will be back for the 28-year-old again this summer, though reports suggest he would have to take a pay-cut to belatedly join the La Liga champions. Griezmann earns around £385,000 a week at Atletico.
You would expect City to be reluctant to match those terms too given the current harmony among their squad, especially in comparison to the catastrophe across Manchester caused by United’s willingness to indulge Alexis Sanchez. But, according to Sport, Pep Guardiola has told Griezmann that City will be willing to pay his release clause, which drops to just over £100million in July. Bayern Munich are also sniffing, having already spent £100million on their defence.
