LIVERPOOL WANT LEMAR
According to L’Equipe, Liverpool are hoping to convince Monaco to sell winger Thomas Lemar this summer. They only bought Lemar from Ligue 1 minnows Caen last summer and he has made 25 appearances in the league this campaign.
The 20-year-old has been impressive on the wing and, according to the French newspaper, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool have all been watching him. All three clubs are considering a move to lure the French under-21 but L’Equipe believe Liverpool are the prime candidates.
Monaco do not want to part company with Lemar but if they are offered the right price, they will reportedly be forced to sell – and Jurgen Klopp could be ready to make his move. Or perhaps he should buy Nathan Redmond instead.
We’re not convinced that the move will go ahead this summer. Right about now the chances are about 50:50.
MAN UNITED LINING UP VARANE MOVE
Back to England now and straight to the Daily Mirror, and their claim that Manchester United will try and sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid this summer. Given that it was Jose Mourinho who signed Varane from Lens, would any bid depend on his own arrival at Old Trafford?
Varane, now 23, is clearly an excellent central defender, but he has struggled to command a regular place in Real’s first team this season. With Sergio Ramos and Pepe both ahead of him in the pecking order, Varane has started 23 league games and six Champions League games. Is playing in two-thirds of games for one of the world’s biggest clubs good enough?
It’s pretty damn clear that United will want a central defender this summer, with Phil Jones permanently broken and Daley Blind still a square peg in round hole.
SANCHEZ LEAVING ARSENAL COULD HAPPEN
Oh boy. If Arsenal supporters thought that the days of selling the club’s best players had gone, they were sadly mistaken.
Most of the newspapers discuss Arsenal’s impending ‘talks’ with Sanchez, and report that the club have a decision to make about cashing in on a player who is reportedly less than happy about Arsenal’s limp title challenge.
The majority verdict is that Bayern Munich and Juventus are both interested in Sanchez, and that Arsenal will decide to sell if they feel that the Chilean’s mind is elsewhere.
