Gossip: Spurs eye £107m double swoop with £310m Kane sale
DIRTY HARRY
Real Madrid are fifth in La Liga, and have been outscored by 11th-placed Levante and Celta Vigo in 16th this season. The only player to score more than five league goals for them is Karim Benzema, and he only has seven goals in 18 games.
It really isn’t going all that well; they need a root-and-branch review. Or the world’s best striker.
The Sun say Real want to sign Harry Kane ‘to rejuvenate their team’. The Spanish club has identified the need for ‘an established but still young striker’, and the Tottenham forward is one of the few that truly fits the bill.
Tottenham’s response to this apparent interest is pretty admirable. They ‘have put a huge £310million price tag on the striker’. So yeah.
EARN YOUR SPURS
How will Tottenham spend that windfall? By matching whatever offer Ajax receive for Frenkie de Jong.
Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona both want the young midfielder, and are willing to pay around £67m for him. Manchester City have seemingly dropped out of the race altogether.
‘Ajax will sell De Jong to the highest bidder,’ the Daily Express tells us, ‘so Daniel Levy will have to break Tottenham’s transfer record to get him on board.’
They do say the signing will be funded by the sale of Christian Eriksen to Real for £100m. Lot of money swirling about, isn’t there.
BROOKS EYED
Whoever Tottenham do sell – if indeed they do sell – David Brooks would be a rather suitable signing.
Bournemouth have caught on too: The Sun say they ‘will offer’ the midfielder ‘a huge pay rise’ to keep him on the south coast.
Eddie Howe ‘wants to reward the exciting midfielder’ (and keep him too), so the club ‘are willing to more than double’ his current wages to around £50,000.
What’s more, ‘the signs are that Brooks will commit’.
That will disappoint not only Tottenham but Manchester United too. ‘The two giants would happily pay around £40million to take Brooks on’.
