Gossip: United plan summer clearout, Fulham sales start

Manchester United lost a game this week, so they’re selling everybody. It’s CLEAROUT time. Ander Herrera’s off to PSG, Juan Mata is chatting to Barcelona, Alexis Sanchez is rubbish now, Antonio Valencia is out of contract while Marcos Rojo has been allowed to train with Estudiantes. And then there’s forgotten man Matteo Darmian, who hasn’t played since January.

One player who won’t be leaving despite being wanted by quite literally everybody is David De Gea. United will risk losing him on a free rather than selling him this summer despite reports that Real Madrid could dangle Thibaut Courtois and/or Gareth Bale in the general direction of Manchester.

Once United have cleared out the deadwood, they’ll need to sign some new lads. Raphael Varane remains a target – seems hopelessly optimistic, but initial approaches have been made – while they’ve joined City in the chase for Altletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.

United also still want hotshot England youngsters Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi, although the Mail accurately describe such a double swoop on Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea as ‘difficult’.

With Fulham’s relegation now confirmed, the sales can begin. The Cottagers have a clause in Andre Schurrle’s loan deal which means he can be packed off a year early – saving the club a hefty wedge of wages – while some textbook 2+2=4 rumour-wrangling leads several papers to deduce that Ryan Sessegnon to Spurs might be back on. Although probably not for the £50m that was being touted a year ago.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is wanted by West Ham, which also just feels like a very correct combination of player and club.
