Gossip: United still want Rose; City eye cut-price Napoli star

Manchester United’s interest in Danny Rose has not abated, apparently.

Jose Mourinho has been keen on the Tottenham defender for some time, and given the rotation going on around his left-back spot, the United boss is clearly not thrilled with any of his options.

Tuttomercato (of course) claims United will make a bid in January, and you would expect the Red Devils to fancy their chances given how Spurs have coped in Rose’s absence. Ben Davies has been rather good.

One of the players Mourinho has used at left-back is Daley Blind, who is supposedly the subject of interest from Turkey.

According to Calciomercato (yeah, we know), Galatasaray are sniffing around the Dutch utility man. Quite what, other than a ridiculous cash offer, would make United sell in January, we’ve no idea. But Turkey is certainly the destination of choice for anyone looking for a lazy transfer link for any of those not considered to be among Mourinho’s untouchables.

Despite signing a couple of full-backs in January, Pep Guardiola is said to be after another in January.

Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam is the latest target. With Bernard Mendy set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, The Sun claims City are looking at the Algeria defender as a cut-price stop gap.

Ghoulam is out of contract next summer and refusing to sign new terms with Napoli because he fancies a new challenge/massive pay-rise. He’ll certainly get that if this story is believed, with a £90,000-a-week salary plus a hefty signing-on bonus given he should only cost around £3million.

The Sun quotes ‘an Etihad source’ as saying: “Ghoulam has been looked at for a while and Pep is very much interested. City play Napoli next week and are hoping to steal a march on others about a deal. He’s free to speak to English clubs soon.”

The other clubs, who apparently lack basic forms of communication, are Chelsea and Liverpool.

The vultures are circling around Antoinne Griezmann once more.

United, Barcelona and PSG are all linked with the France star due to the terms of the new contract he signed with Atletico during the summer. Apparently, the 24-year-old’s release clause stands at around £89million but that will double from July 1.

Mundo Deportivo say United will go back for the playmaker but they will face competition from Barcelona, who will be itching to do something big next summer.

Kylian Mbappe, according to Don Balon, has also asked PSG to sort his mate out with a transfer too. Normally we’d scoff at the prospect of a player going to his club and asking for them to chuck 100million euros at his pal, but in PSG’s case, we’re not sure anymore.

The only thing for certain is that we’re all set for another Griezmann saga but, like the last one, at least it won’t drag all through the summer.
