Gossip: Varane, Bale, De Gea, Dani Alves, Bakayoko

The path between Madrid and Manchester could be a well trodden one this summer if any of today’s Gossip is to be believed.

We know Real Madrid want David De Gea. We know United want Raphael Varane. Well, the Mirror claims both clubs could be open to a deal that would involve the France defender and a few quid being used as leverage to bring De Gea back to his hometown.

United don’t want to sell De Gea and it is unlikely that the keeper would agitate for a move. But Jose Mourinho is desperate to strenghten the centre of his defence, with the story claiming Varane could be one of a couple of recruits in that area.

The Red Devils remain favourites for Michael Keane, who would come relatively cheap because of the sell-on clause United have on their former academy graduate. Victor Lindelof’s name is being thrown around again too, but Mourinho wants to build his backline around Varane.

United may also be interested to hear that Real are willing to listen to offers for Gareth Bale.

The Independent reports Real will entertain interest in the Wales star if it means freeing up funds and a place in the squad for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe or Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

Chelsea reportedly want to give Victor Moses competition for his right wing-back slot in the shape of Dani Alves.

The Juventus right-back is on the brink of winning the Treble in his first season with the club, but the 34-year-old’s future is said to be in doubt, with 12 months remaining on his contract.

That has alerted Antonio Conte, according to the Daily Mail, who lead with the story on their back page. No price is mentioned, but there is also said to be interest from Man City and Tottenham.

A couple of other Chelsea lines in The Sun: the champions are ready to abandon their pursuit of Tiemoue Bakayoko to focus on Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso, while Atletico are apparently close to agreeing a move for Diego Costa in January.
