Gossip: Werner, Barkley, Dembele

Liverpool are basically being linked with every half-decent attacking player with pace and now the Daily Mail add the name of RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, who has scored 14 Bundesliga goals this season. It’s a no-brainer really, with Werner just 21 and capable of playing across the front line.

Liverpool have also been impressed by Naby Keita and Emil Forsberg; join the queue along with the rest of Europe, fellas.

Or at least they are ‘weighing up’ a summer bid and ‘carefully following the situations’ of both Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, with a view to spending £100m on the pair in the summer, according to the Daily Telegraph. Poor Everton…the price of leading the also-rans behind a powerful top six is to have their best assets targeted by those stood on their heads.

Barkley will soon have only a year remaining on his contract but Everton still will not sell for less than £30m, while Lukaku will cost around £70m regardless of his refusal to sign a new contract. Chelsea reportedly want two strikers this summer, with Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata apparently keen on joining the Blues. Diego Costa is likely to be sold to part-fund this extravaganza.

Chelsea won the FA Cup battle on Monday and now the clubs are reportedly battling for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, with The Independent claiming: ‘Manchester United are the latest big club to seriously monitor Celtic prodigy Moussa Dembele, and could well give Chelsea competition for his signature in the summer.’

The report claims that Dembele would be one of two strikers bought by United this summer, with Dembele earmarked for a supporting role to a marquee signing. Does Dries Mertens come under the ‘marquee’ category?
