Manchester United are likely to miss out on Antoine Griezmann because ‘he, along with his wife, Erika Choperena, have reservations about swapping Madrid for Manchester’.
The Frenchman is a long-term target for Manchester United and is thought to be one of the players considered by Jose Mourinho after he suggested that one summer signing at least would “cost a lot.”
But now ESPN claim that sources close to the Atletico Madrid forward have said that United ‘face a battle’ to sign Griezmann as their preference is to stay in Spain, with Barcelona said to be interested despite signing Philippe Coutinho in the summer transfer window.
Reports on Monday in England claimed that Griezmann wanted £400,000 a week from United to snub Barcelona. The Frenchman can pretty much write his own contract as his Atletico buy-out clause means he is available for just £88m.
Guillem Balague said on Monday: “They’re very optimistic at the club that they will add Antoine Griezmann’s signature in the summer, though Manchester United may have something to say about that.”
Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale and Juventus forward Paulo Dybala are cited as two other options for United as they look to spend big this summer after seeing Manchester City disappear over the horizon this season.
