Guardiola accuses youngster of reneging on ‘agreement’
Pep Guardiola has accused Jadon Sancho of reneging on an agreement with Manchester City.
Sancho had been courted by both Arsenal and Tottenham this summer after becoming concerned that he would not gain enough playing opportunities in Manchester.
City lost highly-rated 17-year-old English midfielder Sancho to Borussia Dortmund on deadline day and Guardiola admits that was a shame, although the youngster had apparently been refusing to train.
He said: “We arrived in an agreement with Sancho, we shook hands. We offered him a huge deal in terms of the salary, he would have been (among the most) well paid in all the Academy.
“After that, before we went to the States, he decided – or the managers (agents) decided – ‘I am not going to sign the contract’. We said, ‘Okay you are not going to travel to the States’. After that, the last two or three weeks, he didn’t appear in the training sessions. He should (have) come but he didn’t.
“Maybe he thought he would get more minutes at Dortmund and I can understand that. We are going to wish him the best but it is disappointing.”
