Guardiola won’t let Ederson take a penalty

Pep Guardiola says he won’t let Ederson take a penalty out of respect for Manchester City’s opponents.

City supporters called for goalkeeper Ederson to take a penalty when the champions were awarded one in last week’s victory over Swansea.

Ederson has since said he would be happy to take one, but Guardiola insists there is no chance.

He said: “That is not going to happen because he is a goalkeeper and there are other players that are going to hit them.

“There is respect for the opponents, respect for the competitions.

“In friendlies or penalty shoot-outs maybe he can do it but in a (league) game, no.”
