Liverpool are among three clubs ‘leading’ the race to sign Jude Bellingham and the Borussia Dortmund star is reportedly unlikely to sign a new contract.
The teenage midfielder is being targeted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe ahead of the summer transfer window.
Bellingham’s decision to join Dortmund over Man Utd in 2020 has proven to be an inspired one as he has shone for the Bundesliga side over the past couple of seasons.
The German outfit have afforded him the platform to shine and he has taken this opportunity with both hands to establish himself as one of the best young players in the world.
The Birmingham City academy product also performed brilliantly for England at the World Cup and this is likely to lead to him leaving Dortmund in the summer.
His contract at Dortmund is due to expire in 2025 and Bild TV presenter – Valentina Maceri – cannot see him signing an extension.
“For now, I don’t think he will sign a new contract,” Maceri told Sky Sports News.
“There has been no official offers as yet from Borussia Dortmund as of yet. And for now, they want to give Bellingham all the time he needs to make a decision.
“For now, Bellingham wants to focus on Dortmund because at the weekend there is the reset of the Bundesliga.”
Liverpool are known to be interested in the midfielder as they are planning to strengthen in that area of the pitch in the summer.
They are facing a fight to sign him with Real Madrid and Man City are among the sides interested in signing him.
Dortmund are in a position where they can demand a huge fee for their prized asset and it has been suggested that he could cost as much as £130m.
Maceri also suggested that Bellingham’s father is “talking to Liverpool” but City and Madrid are also involved in the “game of poker”.
“Our information is that his father is talking to Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp wants to sign him at Liverpool,” Maceri added.
“But there is also Real Madrid and Manchester City in the game. I think everyone wants to have a player like Jude Bellingham. However, these three teams are the leading ones in the game of poker to sign him.”
The presenter later revealed that Jurgen Klopp feels that if Bellingham’s decision is going to be based on money, “he’s not going to choose Liverpool”.
But she then admitted that her “gut” feeling is that the 19-year-old will join Liverpool.
“Klopp says if Bellingham is going to sign for the money, he’s not going to choose Liverpool. But if Bellingham is to decide on his personal development as a player, and on tradition and for the love of the game, he could decide on Liverpool,” she continued.
“My gut is that maybe we could see him at Liverpool.”
