Gvardiol intermediary confident €100m star will move to ‘persistent’ Chelsea after new attack

Chelsea target Gvardiol

Josko Gvardiol will “eventually go to Chelsea” according to a source close to the Croatia international.

The Blues made an £80m bid for the centre-back in the summer, which was turned down by RB Leipzig.

Gvardiol then signed a new five-year deal with the Bundesliga side but is still expected to make a big money move in the summer for around €100m following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

It was thought Chelsea’s interest may have ended following their signing of left-sided centre-back Benoit Badiashile, but Bild (via Sport Witness) claimed on Friday that the Blues haven’t given up on their pursuit of the 20-year-old.

The report claims Chelsea ‘remain persistent’ and have ‘dared’ to launch a new attack to sign Gvardiol, though are targeting a summer transfer.

Chelsea’s new technical director Christopher Vivell spent over two years at Leipzig before joining the Premier League side in December and would be at the heart of any deal for the Croatian.

On the back of that report, intermediary Vincenzo Cavaliere told Calciomercato that he believes Gvardiol is worth the €100m Leipzig want for him

“A player’s valuation is directly proportional to how much a club is willing to pay for him, and with the prices at which certain players get away, I’d say yes. Gvardiol is 20 years old, he’s a regular in a big club like Leipzig and in the Croatian national team, third in the world.”

Cavaliere was then asked which club he expects Gvardiol to join.

“I think he eventually goes to Chelsea,” he replied.

Asked by the Italian publication whether any Serie A clubs were in the frame, the intermediary confirmed that there was historic interest in the defender but suggested their chances are slim now that Premier League clubs are circling.

“Atalanta and Milan had looked for him, but the most serious approach was that of Inter when the boy played for Dinamo Zagreb’s Allievi. The Croatian club did not want to sell him and nothing was done about him.”
