Maguire puts the ‘responsibility’ on Man Utd players for Ole sack

Man Utd captain Harry Maguire has insisted that players “need to take responsibility” for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure from the club.
The Red Devils parted company with Solskjaer on Sunday. This came after they lost five of their last seven games in the Premier League.
The final straw for Man Utd’s board was their 4-1 defeat versus Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
Solskjaer aimed vicious ‘parting shot’ at ‘flops’ after ‘betrayal’
Maguire has been in poor form for United this season. He was sent off against Watford after being booked twice inside seven minutes in the second half.
Michael Carrick has stepped in as United’s temporary boss. His first game in charge is in Spain as Man Utd travel to face Villarreal in the Champions League group stages.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Maguire has suggested that Solskjaer “paid the price” for the players’ performances not being good enough:
“The players need to take responsibility. We are in this together. Ultimately the manager has paid the price, we are all so disappointed by that. We know we haven’t been good enough. We have spoken about that. The lads want to succeed.
“It has been a very hard time as players. The amount of respect we had for the boss. We’ve been on a journey together.
“For him to come in and talk to us yesterday, it was tough. The result on Saturday wasn’t good enough but the results of recent have not been good enough. Ole has paid the price and we have to take a big reponsibility too.
“The players need to take responsibility for everything on and off the pitch. We were in this together and we are all so disappointed.
“[Us players] need to get this club back to where it was.
“We were in it together, we have done everything we can. We are giving everything, we want to succeed.
“The manager came in and spoke to us, it was an emotional day. Ole was a legend, he will remain one.
“He wished us well, he will be supporting us. He wants us to win every game of football.
“I think in football you have ups and downs. The toughest time for many at club level.
“It hasn’t been good enough, not delivering indiviudally or collectively. It snowballed from one thing to another.
“We have to find something within ourselves to find that focus and mentality.”
